Floral
Iris
Iris in perfume comes from the root (rhizome), not the flower. The roots are dried and aged for several years before distillation into orris butter, one of the most costly perfume materials. Powdery, soft and violet-like.
Origin Iris pallida grown around Florence, in Tuscany, is the classic source, hence “Florentine iris”.
