EDT, EDP, Parfum, Extrait: What's the Difference?
These names tell you how much perfume oil is in the bottle. More oil usually means a richer, longer-lasting scent. Percentages vary by brand.
- Eau de Toilette (EDT): about 5–15%. Light and bright, great for daytime and heat.
- Eau de Parfum (EDP): about 15–20%. The everyday sweet spot.
- Parfum: about 20–30%. Richer and longer-lasting. (Federico Mahora's Pure line is 20%.)
- Extrait de Parfum: often 20–40%. The most concentrated and intense.

What's a Tester?
A tester is the same fragrance as the retail version, made for stores to let shoppers try it. Testers often come in a plain box (or none) and sometimes without a cap. They're a practical pick for yourself; for gifts, choose boxed retail or a gift set. Check each product page for packaging details.
How to Test a Fragrance
- Test on skin, not just paper. Skin chemistry changes a scent.
- Give it time. Top notes fade within 15–30 minutes, then the heart and the long-lasting base take over. Judge it after an hour, not the first minute.
- Test two at most at a time, one per wrist.
- Reset your nose by sniffing your sleeve between scents.
How to Apply It
- Spray on pulse points: wrists, neck, behind the ears and inner elbows.
- Don't rub your wrists together. It dulls the top notes.
- Apply after showering, on moisturized skin, so it lasts longer.
- Start small: 2–3 sprays of an EDP, or 1–2 of a Parfum or Extrait. Oud, coffee and amber need a light hand.
